Far Eastern Memorial Hospital sets new high standards for medical treatment—Uphold smart medical services and become the first priority choice of medical centers
Far Eastern Memorial Hospital implement Knowledge Management System to Improve healthcare quality.
Under the era of Big Data, smart hospitals are undergoing rapid development, and the utilization of ICT in the medical industry in Taiwan has achieved a certain level. The applications including medical and care system, talent cultivation, medical device utilization, hospital management and optimization of patient service have all utilized ICT to improve efficiency and increase their service quality. The Vice President of the Far Eastern Memorial Hospital (FEMH), Shu-Wen Chang, said: “Medical innovation is the driving force for hospital development. FEMH upholds the principle of “Continuous improvement of medical quality, Fulfill social medical care responsibility,” and has started the smart hospital construction project since 2014 with the active introduction of numerous information management facilities in order to create a patient-oriented smart hospital. ”
Construction of information facilities currently introduced by FEMH:
Vitals ESP environmental friendly and paperless system receiving great recognition from hospital accreditation surveyors
The Vice President of FEMH, Shu-Wen Chang, said: “FEMH greatly emphasizes knowledge management. Since 2000, FEMH has self-developed the e-learning website for knowledge learning and exchange in order to allow staff to perform knowledge exchange and communication through various learning courses and activities, such as medical related core courses, medical education, quality courses, study groups in various fields and quality management activities as well as certification thereof. Through such learning and exchange, the professional job skills can be improved and further enhanced and outstanding talent can be cultivated; in addition, documents, forms and even meeting records and surgery instructions under different levels of controls can also be managed under the document control system. FEMH has also received the honor of second place award in the “Enterprise Learning Social Group Contest” held by the Industrial Development Bureau, MOEA, which shows the exceptional development of the knowledge management applications at FEMH. ”
In recent years, there have been great changes in the environment of the medical industry. To cope with the digital information trend, since March 2015, FEMH has introduced the GSS information Vitals ESP knowledge management enterprise cloud in order to achieve greater inheritance, sharing and application of valuable knowledge; consequently, the manpower and material resources for the works of the hospital’s accreditation, certification and evaluation can be reduced while improving the position of the medical center.
Vice President of FEMH, Shu-Wen Chang, emphasized: “For the 2016 hospital accreditation and teaching hospital accreditation, the competition among the Taipei district medical centers is extremely intensive and the situation of the ten medical centers competing for eight positions also occurs for the first time. FEMH has successfully qualified the accreditation and continues to maintain the honor of a medical center. This is an outstanding achievement resulting from the full support of President Hsu in the promotion of the knowledge management system as well as the joint effort and contributions of more than three thousand staff.”
During the process of preparing certification, evaluation and accreditation, FEMH has discovered that a lot of information is being repetitively photocopied for users and that the service units also repetitively provide the same documents to various units in the hospital, which are unnecessary costs to the hospital from the operational management aspect. The introduction of Vitals ESP is able to reduce the use of 27 units of database cabinets with a total of more than 2,000 file folders during the medical center accreditation conducted at FEMH, among which the operational management team is even reduced to the use of 0 file folders. The complete e-presentation of various accreditation information has gained great recognition from the accreditation surveyors. In addition, FEMH is also invited to provide external speeches and to attract other operators in the same field to conduct observations at the hospital.
